Everything changes in Winter - our colour is not as tanned or sun kissed as Summer and the winter months can leave us looking a little dull and listless.
The texture of our skin changes as we tend to move from one extreme to another.... hot to cold, cold to hot, wet to windy - you get the picture and it's this change in conditions that plays havoc with our skin and drys us out, making our skin feel dehydrated, dry and flaky.
Dry skin typically experiences a breakdown of the skin barrier functions due to inflammation, as well as a build-up of dead skin cells. The number one solution is to keep skin well hydrated.
Keep internally hydrated. Eat plenty of essential fatty acids, (“EFAs”) omega-3, found in avocado and oily fish and omega -6 found in nuts, wholegrain and flaxseed oil, which keep hydrated and clarified. There is growing evidence that “EFAs” assist in keeping skin moisturised, smooth and healthy.
And of course, don't forget to drink lots of water.
Exfoliate weekly to counteract the build-up of dead skin cells. In winter things slow down, the natural shedding slows down and products become less effective, as the barrier of dead cells prevents absorption.
